Michelle G. Mattison, CPA

Michelle entered the public accounting field as an auditor with Arthur Anderson Co. in Detroit, Michigan working regulated industry, banking, and not-for-profit entities. She later joined Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and worked on major government funded projects for health care reimbursement. Armed with a firm basis in small-to-medium size business operations, Michelle returned to the Hampton Roads, Virginia area developing her skills in financial planning for small businesses. She joined Kantor & Associates gaining an understanding of the benefits of insurance in planning activities.

Michelle G. Mattison founded MGM Financial Services, P.C., a full service accounting and financial management firm that provides payroll and bookkeeping; financial projections and statements; tax planning and preparation; and insurance and annuity services to small businesses and individuals. MGM provided services for companies with one to over 100 employees and gross revenues exceeding $2M; and over 1200 personal and business tax returns. In addition, the firm files documentation necessary for start-ups to operate or existing businesses to reduce taxes owed.

Goals and Objectives:

My goal is to help clients build a solid foundation for the creation, management, and preservation of wealth. The firm’s objective is to provide our clients with solutions to professional, business, and personal financial challenges that lead to sustained growth for present and future needs.

Professional Education and Training:

Michelle earned a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Old Dominion University. She holds licenses as a Certified Public Accountant and Life and Health Insurance Representative. Michelle has received supplemental professional training at Tax and Financial Planning workshops; Trust and Fiduciaries training; Business Tax Planning seminars; Church Management training; and Advanced Planning “Hidden Equity” training for high incomers.


Significant Accomplishments:

Michelle provided financial management services to a small business client operating on a cash basis with minimal financial accountability and transformed the company into a viable business with full financial records. The business owner was able to acquire bank loans, hire more employees, provide proper worker’s compensation insurance and offer employee’s health insurance. In addition, she instituted protective measures geared toward the owner’s future financial needs.

Michelle provided tax planning, preparation services to clients consisting of high-income business owners, and professionals to low-income service level workers and students. She represented clients during Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Audits with no adverse adjustments from the filled tax return.

Michelle consulted with Real Estate Industry clients on methods for reclaiming previous net income losses that resulted in reduced tax liabilities of up to 50 percent. Michelle provided asset management services including market timing and selection of investment vehicles advice to minimize the tax effects. Michelle’s negotiated tax settlement strategies exceed 95 percent success rate in IRS acceptance.
